The HoloLens facilitates your building process from A to Z, whether on site, at the office, or remotely. Here’s how it’s done.
Your 3D models can be visualized on a 1:1 scale. Thanks to spatial anchors, the HoloLens perfectly aligns the 3D models to your real-life environment. By doing so, the digital models become part of your physical reality. This allows you to easily review your plans and detect possible errors. Did they leave enough space for doors and windows? Is the size of a certain room or hallway correct? Right now, this process still requires a pair of human eyes. In the near future however, AI and computer vision can automate this process.
You no longer need to pay on-site visits with all your stakeholders. One person wearing the HoloLens is sufficient now to show them around the construction site. Thanks to remote assist, the person on-site can share what he sees, both his real-life environment and any holographic layers projected with the HoloLens.
As we build your custom HoloLens application, we make sure that the app supports all industry standard software, such as Revit and AutoCAD, and all its file formats, like IFC, RVT and DWG. This means you don’t have to create new file formats in order to visualize your existing 3D models on the HoloLens. Those models can be rendered on the HoloLens itself, as it is a standalone Windows 10 computer. However, to ensure high performance holographic experiences of complex 3D models while using the HoloLens, a traditional approach, which compresses the models and removes polygons, can mean a loss of important details. In that case, remote rendering is in order. In the field, this might require a 4G or 5G network connection. Luckily, with HoloLens 2 you can leverage the USB-C port to connect to a 4G, 5G or LTE dongle.
